O-200 Straight Pipes?

Have any off you done 4 straight pipes on your O-200 exhaust? Heard and saw F1 planes do it.

Opinions on pros and cons appreciated.

Thanks Robert

Love building planes almost as much as flying. Latest completed build is "Loki", a Chinook Plus 2 bush plane.

Hi Robert

That is certainly a possibility. I have not seen it on a Q200, but if it were me, I would be very concerned about frying my canard. At a minimum you will put a lot of exhaust stains on the cowling and canard. So my gut would say this is a bad idea. Best practice would be to copy someone else’s exhaust system (like Corbin’s) that is known to work on a Q2-GU installation.

Cheers,

Jay

BTW, after looking at your install photos, I would suggest moving your capacitor to the inside of the firewall. It will last longer if it is on the lower temperature side of the firewall.

Cheers,

Jay

I played with inside vs outside but given my space and access and B&C instructions and precious planes, I opted for this. And yes I did remember your pics doing this the other way 😀

Turn pipes so they are parallel to air flow; add a bit of thrust not drag.

Unless you are talking about actual F1-style 6inch | 150mm stubs dropping straight out the bottom of the cowl, in which case I look forward to your experiments.
